Flight - Dance of the Skies

‘FLIGHT : Dance of the Skies,’  is the title given to the Opening Ceremony for the The 28th Trampoline and Tumbling World Championships, taking place the National Indoor Arena Birmingham in November 2011.  dna3d will artistic direct the ceremonies for this championships and Ian and Dennie began work on ‘Flight’ in May 2011 with the development of a unique, specially composed music.

The Opening Ceremony will transform the Arena with a performance that explores the history of aviation.  From winged animals and insects of nature, the man-made Kongming Lattern of the 3rd century, skeletal sketches and then constructions of the Wright brothers, to mans first steps on the Moon, ‘Flight : Dance of the Skies’ features designers, model makers, musicians, dancers, acrobats, poets and stilt walkers from across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

The team includes  Artistic Director Dennie Wilson; composer Ian Wallman, set and costume designers Lisa Williams and artists of dna3d performing and choreographing.  Construction of set and props/models begins in September as does full rehearsals with all the different performance groups who will be taking part.

The Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday 18th November ( Senior Championships) and Friday 25th (Age Group Championships) at .6.25pm and will welcome athletes from 42 Nations to a World Championships, which also acts as the qualification competition for the trampoline discipline for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
