Lausanne - Gymnastraeda 2011 - Representing GB

Road to Leeds : City of Leeds Gymnastics Display Team : Gymnastraeda 2011 Performance piece.

Following the success of Contract 8 – the Opening Ceremony for the European Gymnastics Championships - Dennie and Jenny were approached by the City of Leeds Gymnastics Display to to create a new work for them to perform representing Great Britain at Gymnastraeda 2011.  Gymnastraeda takes place every 4 years and has more participants than the Olympics.  The difference being that this event is non-competitive and approx. 25,000 gymnastics from across the world come together to celebrate gymnastics and culture.  Everyone makes friends and there is a really positive and mad energy to Gymnastraeda.

Dennie and Jenny spent every other Sunday from Sept 2010 – April 2011 traveling between Birmingham and Leeds to create 'Road to Leeds.'  With music specially composed by Charlie Mathews, the piece featured 28 gymnasts aged between 8 – 20 from a range of gymnastic disciplines;  tumblers, acrobats and artistic gymnasts, and none had done much dance before, so it was heads down and hard work for all.

Dennie and Jenny flew out to Lausanne to see three performances of Road to Leeds and experience lots of other Gymnastraeda performances, as well as the Olympic museum and they even managed a swim in lake Geneve ( well one of them did!)
