World Wheelchair Basketball Championships 2010 - Opening, Closing & Medal Ceremonies

“Five on Five” was the title given to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 World Wheelchair Basketball Championships. Influenced by Birmingham’s iconic Fort Dunlop building and taking inspiration from the famous Dunlop motto of Performance: Precision, Passion, the ceremonies were created specifically around Birmingham’s connection to the wheel and high performance.

Dennie and Ian began by creating a unique soundtrack for the Opening ceremony, spending time with the GB wheelchair basketball under 23 team at Stoke Mandeville, where they recorded the team’s training and match play. These sounds were then taken into the recording studio and sampled to create a palette of unique percussive sounds that became the foundation for a score that initiated the creation of Birmingham’s very own Wheelchair Basket “BALL,” performed by a cast of Contemporary, Hip-Hop and Ballroom Dancers , Musicians, Rhythmic Gymnasts, Cyclists and Skaters.

Maureen Orchard President of the International Federation of Wheelchair Basketball hailed the ceremonies an outstanding success, that would be hard for the next host nation to follow.

dna3d were asked permission for the unique music that had been created for all aspect of the ceremonies, to be used for the Championships Television Highlights programmes aired on Sky Sport during and after the event.
