Symphony Hall Performance : Sing 2011
Sing 2011 was a project delivered by THSH Singing Project Manager Michelle Wolfe and THSH Education and Community. Sing 2011 was performed at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on July 11th 2011. The culmination of five months work where fifty teachers and choir leaders from twenty five schools (primary and secondary), , explored through a series of workshops, the music and words of Stabat Mater by classical Composer Karl Jenkins.
dna3d were successful in applying to create several new pieces of dance that punctuated and were woven into the performance. As the stage was full of over 600 young singers and professional musicians, the dance pieces were designed to be performed in different auditorium and platform spaces around Symphony Hall. The most challenging space proved to be up in the choir stalls where the ‘sound’ of the organ was much much louder than other instruments at the front of the stage. Not being able to hear the nuances and rhythms of the music clearly, did not deter dna3d dancers, they counted madly, had to focus on visual cues from the conductor and keep a close eye on each other. Symphony Hall was an amazing place to perform and was a thoroughly enjoyable project to be involved in.
