Scale : a one minute film with no edits or cuts…..
Scale is the result of an Arts Council Research and Development Award investigating Space, Installation and Performance. Initially centred around the New Walsall Art Gallery, the outcome of the research process was an interactive DVD relating to the scenographic process and moving image technology, alongside dance, the discipline in which Dennie was originally trained.
A great deal of experimental footage was generated – specifically focused on filming the dancer/choreography from above, where filming was continuous and any resulting ‘film’ would contain no edit points. During this process, Ian and Dennie found themselves ‘playing in the studio’ and developed a one minute piece of film and music, which they called ‘Scale’ with the idea that the film be projected on a large building, such as the Apha Tower in Central Birmingham.
Scale and extracts from the interactive DVD produced as a result of this period of Research and Development can be seen on the dna3d youtube channel.
